"I hate you all": Sword wielding man in downtown Vancouver lets his disappointment with the crowd be known.

From the Vancouver Sun:

VANCOUVER -- A sword-wielding man who terrified transit users, tourists and passersby in downtown Vancouver on Monday afternoon has been charged with one count of possession of a dangerous weapon, according to the Vancouver police department.

Paramveer Singh Rarru, 23, of Surrey, has been remanded into custody and police have asked the courts to consider a psychological examination, police said in a statement Tuesday.

The suspect was first spotted with a sword on SkyTrain at Metrotown in Burnaby about 1:30 p.m. He then exited at Burrard Station and was approached by Transit Police.

The man then allegedly became increasingly irrational and continued to unsheathe and wave the sword around, said VPD Const. Lindsey Houghton.

"Out of concern for the man's safety, the safety of bystanders who were gathering nearby, the Vancouver police department Emergency Response Team members deployed multiple rounds from an Arwen gun," Houghton said.

He added that police also attempted to Taser the suspect, but failed to gain control of him. VPD officers then tackled him and recovered the sword at around 2 p.m.

No one was injured during the incident.
