A dynamic display of Middle-earth and Tolkien-inspired Art. Announcement video for an exhibition opening at Bank Street Arts in Sheffield from 2nd - 26th September 2015. EVIL IN THE SHINING LIGHT forms part of the festival of book arts known as 'Opening up the Book'. Artist and Curator John Cockshaw presents an exhibition of Art text and moving image linked by a common theme over two gallery rooms. Featuring the Art of Soni Alcorn-Hender, Tomas Hijo, Jay Johnstone, Katarzyna Chmiel-Gugulska, Ted Nasmith, Tsvetelina Krumova - Elmenel and John Cockshaw, with special guest contributors Marcel Aubron-Bulles (The Tolkienist), Archaeologist Shaun Richardson and additional reference made to Author and music scholar Doug Adams' 2010 book 'The Music of the Lord of the Rings films'. Another major feature of the exhibition is a collaborative video projection THE SIGN OF THE SHINING BEAST by John Cockshaw and Writer Robert S. Malan appearing in association with Luna Press Publishing. Much of this moving image work takes inspiration from JRR Tolkien but it is also an exploration of the graphic novel and photo-roman/cine-roman art forms. Independent publisher Oloris also participates in the exhibition by the display of new art/poetry books that take inspiration JRR Tolkien's legendarium.
