This half-hour program features a conversation with Assemblywoman Addie Jenne Russell, who represents the 116th "River" District of the NYS Assembly. Assemblywoman Russell, the newly appointed chair of the Assembly's Task Force on Women's Issues, spoke with Martha Stahl, VP of External Affairs for Planned Parenthood of the North Country New York, and Donna Seymour, who serves as the Public Policy Director for AAUW-NYS.

In a time when many state legislatures and governors are moving backwards on equality for women, New York is taking an aggressive and proactive leadership role on women's issues with Governor Cuomo's 10-point Women's Equality Agenda. As the Women's Task Force Chair, Russell will be a key leader on the WEA and on many other issues which affect women and their families in New York State.

A coalition of over 300 organizations in New York has already signed on to support the Agenda, including AAUW-St. Lawrence County, League of Women Voters of St. Lawrence County and Planned Parenthood of NCNY.

Pay equity, anti-discrimination legislation, women's health, human trafficking and strengthening domestic violence law are all part of the Agenda. In addition, the trio talked about raising the minimum wage and the need for fair pay laws.

According figures from the National Employment Law Project, increasing the state's minimum wage to $8.75 per hour would raise the paychecks of more than 1.5 million low-paid New York workers, generate more than $1 billion dollars in new consumer spending, and support the creation of 7,300 new full-time jobs across the state as businesses expand to meet increased demand.
