Joan Schenkar will read from and discuss her new book, The Talented Miss Highsmith: The Secret Life and Serious Art of Patricia Highsmith.

Schenkar has received more than 40 grants, fellowships, and awards, including seven grants from the National Endowment for the Arts. She is an alumna of New Dramatists and a member of the Authors Guild, Societe des auteurs et compositeurs dramatiques, PEN, the Dramatists Guild, and the Brontë Society. She was the founder and artistic director of Force Majeure Productions in New York City and of Signs of Life Theater, a London company named after her play. She has had more than 500 productions of her work on stage, radio, and video, and her short stories have been published in several anthologies. Signs of Life: Six Comedies of Menace, a collection of her plays, was published in 1998 and was a Wesleyan University Press bestseller. Truly Wilde: The Unsettling Story of Dolly Wilde, Oscars Unusual Niece (2000) was a finalist for the Lambda Literary Award.
