How to revive NiCad Rechargeable Battery welcome to http://handymanfix.com! Our cordless phone was disconnected with its base during our14-day Europe trip, thus the rechargeable battery on the phone set is dead. After recharging it in the base overnight, nothing indicated it had any charge. It is dead because of the crystal dendrite growth. How can you revive it? Simple, it only takes 2 minutes and a charger to "zap" it.
Note that NiCad battery is an old type but it is not bad at all. It can deliver high current compare to Nimh type. So don't throw it away before reviving it first. You are not only saving money, you are saving our earth!!!
The "zap" only needs to be strong enough to knock off dendrite. It's a pulse for shock treatment, not meant to provide a constant large current. If you have constant current, then it will generate heat, thus may lead to fire.
