Dr Rebecca Rosen, Senior Fellow, Nuffield Trust & GP Vice Chair for Greenwich Clinical Commissioning Group presented the interplay between policy and practice on integrated care in the English National Health Service (NHS) since 2000.
She examined the meaning of integration and used case studies to illustrate how selected English organisations have interpreted the concept and developed integrated services. Drawing on the case studies, she illustrated recent innovations in some of the 'essential ingredients' for integrated care (integrated IT and shared information, aligned incentives and new payment systems). She also examined the extent to which current English policy is supporting or blocking the development of integrated care.
