Josefina Lopez was honored with an award of Excellence in Theatre from the National Hispanic Media Coalition on September 24, 2008. She is best known for authoring the play REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES, a coming-of-age story about Ana, a first-generation Chicana torn between pursuing her college ambitions, a personal goal, and securing employment which is a family expectation. Josefina, a graduate of the prestigious UCLA School of Film and TV, has written many screenplays, is the recipient of a number of awards, is a poet, performer, lecturer of Women's Studies, and Chicano theater and film. She is founder of "Casa 0101 Theater Art Space" in Boyle Heights, where she nurtures a new generation of Latinos artists. Her first novel, Hungry Woman in Paris, is due out in March 2009.
