Spillane an Fánaí Series programme 5 on TG4 Tuesday Nov 18th at 10pm
I wrote a song called 'Killaloe'.
I have to say lads I wrote a humdinger of a song called 'Killaloe' for my TG4 series SPILLANE AN FÁNAÍ - Spillane The Wanderer!
Wandering Minstrel, Roving Bard that I am, around Ireland meeting people and writing songs, there was no shortage of inspiration in this most beautiful town on the Shannon, at the mouth of LOUGH DERG, The Red Lough.
The area is full of wildlife, water and woodland, folklore and poetry, music and song.
'There was a king in Ireland,
His name was Brian Ború,
He built a golden palace,
In the town of Killaloe,
I've seen it in the sunset,
The ship of vanished dreams,
All the bridges burning,
Along the Shannon streams,
The raven from the mountain,
The blackbird and the dove,
Meet me by the river,
Be my river love!'
Fair play to me! You can hear this brand new Irish ballad performed live in Reddan's Public House, Killaloe, on SPILLANE AN FÁNAÍ on TG4 Tuesday 18th November 10pm repeated on 20th Nov at 9pm.
