PSE&G Solar Farm Groundbreaking. July 31, 2012 (Transcript Below)

Governor Christie: I first and foremost want to thank Ralph Izzo and the folks from PSE&G. This was a vision that we had during the campaign to take existing landfill sites and brown fields and build solar farms on those brown fields and PSE&G has stood up to help to make that vision come true and I'm thrilled to hear Ralph's announcement about the additional 883 million dollars of investment. That is a significant investment by PSE&G in trying to make sure that we continue to move our energy future in this state forward and move it forward in a greener fashion. We don't need additional rules and laws to be able to do this. We can do this under the existing rules and laws we have and so I'm proud that this is happening without the heavy hand of government involved but in fact it's happening in a partnership between private sector and the government in making this happen. Growth in this industry you know now only helps us to meet our sustainability goals in terms of renewable energy but it also, as you can hear from Tony, helps to create jobs for working men and women in this state. That's extraordinarily important to me. There's nothing more important than getting as many New Jerseyans as we can back to work.

So this is a win for everybody, a win for the labor unions who are going to be working on this site, it's a win for private sector businesses like Fletch, Kramer runs here. They're going to have this project to do and get done by October. It's a win for PSE&G. It's not only serving its shareholders but it's also serving the residents of our state in a way that is significant and positive and it's also a win for the government in New Jersey, partnering with folks to get these kinds of things done. This is one of our priorities. We made it clear that we want this for the future of our state. My administration is going to continue to take action to move forward on the commitment to develop renewable sources of energy and with corporate partners like PSE&G, we're going to be able to do that. So I want to thank Ralph once again for the significant investment PSE&G is committing to today across our state and we'll be having a number of other events like this with Ralph to put a spotlight on those things that PSE&G is doing not just as a responsible corporate citizen but as a responsible member of the New Jersey community.
