Peace Child Israel Jewish and Arab Students Learn Values of Coexistence through Theater On March 28, students from Gymnasia Herzliya, a Jewish school in North Tel Aviv, and Ironi Yud-Bet, an Arab school in Jaffa, performed a bilingual adaptation of the Broadway musical "West Side Story." The performance is the culmination of a reconciliation program created by Peace Child Israel, a non-profit arts organization that uses theater to teach democratic values, coexistence and mutual respect to students across the political divide in Israel. This program is sponsored by a USAID Conflict Management and Mitigation grant monitored by the Embassy's Public Affairs Section. In preparation for the performance, the students spend months in rehearsal where the script serves as a trigger to breakdown ethnic stereotypes.
