My name is Erin Michael Vondrak. I made this video to kill time while waiting to hear back from an application. It was intended to be silly. Here are the details:

- The position I'd applied for had nothing to do with art or game design, but customer support, which I had an extensive background in.

- Had I been making something specifically to showcase my pertinent talents to Valve, it definitely wouldn't have been a silly singsong animation in Flash posted to YouTube. The video didn't need my resume integrated into it - that would have been incredibly boring. Valve already had that information, and reached out to me / interviewed me based on it.

- I went through three stages of interviews based on my resume, and visited one separate time when they invited me in after this video wound up in the news.

The people I spoke and interviewed with at Valve were awesome. I learned a lot through the interview process and in the stimulating conversations I had with the people there. It was a great time, and they were aware that this video was not intended to replace my resume, but instead, to make people laugh.

Stuff you wouldn't do: Get a degree in computer science/engineering or business degree. Learn a game engine and make games. Stuff you will do: write a shitty song and expect one of the most acclaimed and successful companies to hire you when you have NO skills. You can't draw, you can't animate and you can't sing People who work at valve are the BEST at what they do.

Damn, there is a lot of hate on this video. I think it's unique and brave in a way. Yes the art sucks, but she said she wanted a CUSTOMER SUPPORT job. So looking like a nice person was more important than the drawing skill. Anyway I think it was nice of Valve to give her their time even though they didn't want to hire her in the end.
Gaben disapproves.

Don't understand all the negativity. I thought it was charming and creative.
/v/ proves that there truly is no such thing as internalized misogyny by constantly threatening women with physical violence and death threats for trying to have a voice in the video game industry. we dun good /v/irgins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
