Chutney music is created by Indo-Caribbean people (Indians who came from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Bengal and South India to work on sugar plantations). It's a blend of traditional Indian music and soca music originating out of Trinidad and Tobago.
In its original form, traditional Indian instruments (Harmonium, Sitar, Tabla, Dohlak and Dhantal) are included. The lyrics were almost in Hindi.
Since 1963 a new form of caribbean music called (Soca) was created. Soca is a blend of Calypso, american blues and rhythms. Indo-Caribbean Artists started to fuse Soca into Chutney music, thereby creating Indian Soca. Nowadays there are many subgenres like chutney ragga, chutney bhangra, soca bhangra, chutney hip hop and chutney soca.
