Dale Earnhardt was always an American hero in my eyes. He lived the American dream because he believed. He fought his entire life to live out his dream and he made it happen. His story makes me proud to be an American, and it makes me proud to be a father. God bless you Sr, and keep charging Jr!

I'm a Formula 1 fan. I've followed the sport for fifty plus years. In all sincerity, It's best not to get emotionally wrapped up in the lives of your favorite drivers. This is not a stick and ball sport. My birthday is June 11, 1955. It marks the day of the most cataclysmic accident in the history of motor racing, the 24 hours of La Mann. It killed 83 spectators (probably 125, they vanished in the fireball) As a boy, I was a Jim Clarke fan, Jim Clarke was killed at Hockenheim in 1968, I was 14. In 1973, I was a Francois Cervert fan. He was literally cut in half at Watkins Glenn, I was 18. Decades past. I became an Ayrton Senna fan, he was killed at Imola in 1994, I was 39. I drifted. I started hearing more about Dale Earnhardt. The series seemed so much safer, competitive, free. Then came 2001, I was in Europe and watched the Daytona 500 on sky TV. I was 46. Now, I watch golf.
