http://thamarai.com : The legendary Mozart of Madras, AR Rahman has joined forces with telecommunication giants LEBARA (named after the 3 Tamil owners (LEon, BAla and RAtheesh), to launch a series of ring-tones for the global audience in aid of the AR Rahman foundation and the KM Music Conservatory in India.

The collaboration was announced at the after party of the spectacular LEBARA "Journey Home" JAI HO concert at the O2 in London. The exclusive party packed with British Asian celebs, family and friends featured a Q&A hosted by Nitin Ganatra who plays Masood Ahmed in Eastenders.

Lebara's chief executive Ratheesh Yoganathan sat alongside AR Rahman, two powerful Tamil men from the worlds of telecoms and entertainment, want the newly composed ring tones to go beyond the South Asian community and reach the wider global audience.

The video footage begins with a short clip from the concert. Hariharan sings Thamizha Thamizha from Roja, AR Rahman's first movie soundtrack. The song sums up the potential magnitude of the AR Rahman & LEBARA collaboration. Translated: "Tomorrow is ours... the country is ours!" The crowd, as usual, went wild, when Tamil lyrics were sung.

In the golden circle crowd of London's most prestigious concert venue, the O2, was the gorgeous Tamil starlet of the 80s, Sridevi, with her film producer husband Boney Kapoor - they made an appearance on stage at the very end. Celebrities like Danny Boyle, director of Slumdog Millionaire were also present. Thamarai's very own Ashanti Omkar hyped up the crowd getting them screaming Jai Ho and AR Rahman's name prior to the man himself coming on and singing O Saya from Slumdog Millionaire.

View the video for the Q&A and a sneak preview of the Bird Call ringtone which is available on itunes and lebara.com from Sunday 25th July 2010.
