Bob Shane of the Kingston Trio performs a solo from the group's tenth album "Close Up" (1961), which was the first to feature the song's composer John Stewart as a member of the group following the departure of Dave Guard.

"When My Love Was Here" demonstrates the versatility of both Stewart and Shane - Stewart for his ability to write a solid pop song despite his rock and folk roots, and Shane for the range of his vocal skills, which varied from this kind of pop to Broadway show tunes to blues and to the more folk-oriented Kingston Trio numbers.
