MarieMarie “A BEAUTIFUL LIFE”
“I can tell by your grin, you're up to the worst trouble again”
All you need is love? Sure, everyone would agree with that at first. It's a beautiful formula because it rolls of the tongue so easily. That is, as long as love isn't scrutinised for being a construct of interpersonal relationships. In her new single A BEAUTIFUL LIFE, MarieMarie tells neither of being drunk on happiness, nor of conquerors and the conquered, nor the club of the disillusioned. And if she does, it's only to shine a light on the crux of the great power of love. On the second single of her new album O, MarieMarie outlines the love that no one likes to talk about because it's part of everyone, with words that make illusion seem like a paradise that strikes back when you've only just been won over to its side.

“You give me a slap and I give you a kick, that's the way we handle it”

A BEAUTIFUL LIFE is a breathtaking lament about destructive interpersonal relationships, and extreme feelings that create strong connections despite their destructive forces. With accurate observation skills, MarieMarie scrutinises these paradoxes that ultimately leave two completely destroyed souls behind. Rather than looking back at the apparent or actual beauty of hopelessness with caution, she's become even more serious about using the pop idiom as a vehicle to highlight deeper layers. In a playfully serious way, of course. Blood is the answer to the sensory experience. Destructive spirits meet an unborn life in the very beginning, in its DNA. Learned patterns, socialisation – these could put the fear of God into us if music didn't exist as a catharsis.

“Wanna smash everything into bits, to let everybody feel as fucked up as you feel inside”

What is major, what is minor, and are they really two ends of a spectrum? In the musical notion of MarieMarie, the sparse, the melancholy have at least the same energy as the ironically-majestic chorus that rises from sorrow in A BEAUTIFUL LIFE. In the impressive visuals of the single's video (link here), the densely-layered sounds are illustrated with imagery that's as beautiful as it is disturbing. In the end, you'll ask yourself if we all need love after all. Perhaps we do. But it's possible that accepting ourselves – as women, as men, as human beings – is required before we can feel it.

The Album „O“ will be released on May 11th 2018
