Volusia County Fire Services is a great example of the statewide effort to use FEMA funds to make Florida's public agencies more able to face a future disaster. Some of the record funds triggered by the 2004 hurricane season were used to install storm shutters, windscreens or hardened bay doors at nearly 100 fire stations in Central Florida.
