Adding salt to ice not only melts the ice, but also makes it colder. This is the reason why people add salt to ice to freeze the ice cream mixture when making ice cream.

The cooling comes from the heat absorbed for melting the ice (6kJ/mol) and for dissolving salt (3.9kJ/mol).
