Ummagma is a Canadian-Ukrainian duo comprised of Alexx Kretov and Shauna McLarnon. Ummagma's musical style is vacillating and broadly influenced "easy positive music" with richly layered landscapes of pulsating sound and beautiful vocals. It offers a mixture of the ethereal and ambient with sublime resonance, beats and rhythm to create richly layered landscapes. Ummagma is often compared to Cocteau Twins, Blonde Redhead, Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, AIR, Sigur Ros, Stereolab, Michael Brook, Lush, Arcade Fire, Mercury Rev, Talk Talk, Snow Patrol, Ultravox, Curve, Slowdive and M83, but everyone will surely find something truly and exclusively UMMAGMA in this music...
In mid-July, Ummagma released two CD albums ("Ummagma" and "Antigravity"). Although their music encompasses several music genres -- dreampop, post-rock, post-punk, ambient/ethereal, space rock and progressive/art rock -- there is a common remarkable theme, elevating atmosphere and stirring effect in Ummagma's music.
