Get some exercise for yourself and your dog with a nice, relaxing walk.

Step 1: Obtain collar, tags, and leash
Get your dog a well-fitting collar, ID tags, and a sturdy leash.

Tip
A well-fitting collar should allow you to slip two fingers snugly between the collar and your dog’s neck.

Step 2: Update vaccines
Make sure your dog is up to date on all vaccinations. Puppies that haven’t received their shots shouldn’t be taken for walks.

Step 3: Check area restrictions
Check restrictions in the area where you want to walk. Certain public places don’t allow dogs, while others do but require a leash.

Tip
Before walking your dog in public, teach them leash manners, including keeping close to your side and not lunging at others.

Step 4: Clean up
Clean up after your dog. Tie waste bags closed before you throw them away.

Step 5: Provide water
Give your dog water every 30 minutes during the walk and when the walk is finished. Now that you’ve both gotten some exercise, kick back and relax with your four-legged friend.
