This is a new ESPN-produced commercial played out over a cover version of The Beatles' "Hello Goodbye" ("I don't know why you say goodbye/I say hello"), it shows fans in Europe bemoaning Beckham's move to the U.S. It then touts his first scheduled game here, an exhibition match July 21 against England's Chelsea FC on ESPN. The spot will run on ESPN networks. Print in USA Today and ESPN has a similar theme: "Say hello, America. Beckham arrives on ESPN July 21 . . . Say hello to No. 23 [his Galaxy jersey], midfield domination, a legend . . ."
David Beckham was officially introduced as a Galaxy player during a presentation on Friday, July 13, 2007, at The Home Depot Center. This week the Galaxy's newest player also appears on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
