Eureka Moments: Professor Helen Skaer

Helen's Eureka moment was a technically challenging experiment, in which she carefully removed special "tip" cells, from the tips of the
excretory tubules of tiny fruitfly embryos. Only those tubules with
intact tip cells grew to the appropriate size, demonstrating their
crucial importance in ensuring that the fly's kidneys grow to fit the
size of the fly.
