A4 pacific no.60009 'Union of South Africa' seen hauling mainline excursions in the 1990's. One of my favourite locos which has provided some memorable moments both as a passenger and at the lineside. I particularly remember a record run from Settle Junction to Garsdale when going through Blea Moor tunnel was like going through a meteor storm as sparks flew past the windows. Excited owner John Cameron leapt from the footplate at Garsdale crying we've got the record ! we've got the record! to be met with a stony stare from the SLOA stewards who realised we had set fire to half of North Yorkshire! Great days. Amongst others this video includes scenes on the Settle & Carlisle and Welsh Marches routes. In the first few scenes she is carrying the name 'Osprey' so as not to offend the anti apartheid movement
