Great song.

It was 1969 and I was 14 years old when my dad come home in the car he had just purchased, a 1963 Chevy Impala SS 409. I still remember the thunder of the dual quads kicking in when he stabbed the accelerator and you could always tell when he was coming home because you would lose all T.V. reception when he was 4 blocks out! There was a tunnel at Sea-tac airport he would take folks on a ride to show off his wheels and then open her up in the tunnel, it was the sound of the world ending!- the kind of a deep rumble that rattled your teeth! The guys always had a big grin and the ladies...just looked scared!! I longed for the day when I could get my learner's permit and take her out to that tunnel myself. When I turned 15 and a half he got rid of the car just before I got my permit. I was devastated!! Not a total loss though. When I turned 16 he gave me a 1956 2 door Chevy Bel-Air, which was my high school ride ; )

I sold my '57 Bel Air in '67 and bought a '57 Ford Thunderbird that had the original 312 motor replaced with a '62 Ford 406 with tripower that was rated @ 405 HP. I use to race 327/365 HP Corvettes and would just kill them. They wouldn't see that big 406 coming but they would sure see me driving away from them. I paid $1800 for that T-Bird, tricked out and all.

Ford had the tripowered 406 and Dodge had the 413 with the cross ram manifold which also sported dual quads but the 409 Chevy was my dream car in 1961-62 when I was a freshman at Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe Springs, California. Ended up buying a 1957 Chevy Bel Air during my junior year and drove it until I was drafted in 1969. Came back from Vietnam and bought a '70 Plymouth Roadrunner with the pistol grip 4-speed and 8 track indash! Home from the war and living large.
My weapon of choice is the 351 Cleveland.

We have a '70 RR with the 4-speed pistol grip w/a 383, air grabber hood, etc. When my husband and I were dating, I had a '67 Pontiac GP. I took him a ride in it, of course, a little over the speed limit..lol, and he said his Road Runner would beat me in the first quarter, but the GP would win the race. Both STOCK motors...

bullshit, ive seen 327's and 350's go damn near 300,000 miles and never got rebuilt, its all on how much you stomp it and stress the engine rather than just daily use, tru me, build cars for a living
