HMV no.B8771. Written in 1895 by Banjo Paterson, the song was first published in 1903. It fast became known as Australias unofficial nation anthem. In 1941 Paterson died, and an American publisher Carl Fischer Music fausely copyrighted the song as an original work. This copyright does not stand in Australia, although the Australian government was forced to pay Fischer for the use of the song after it was performed at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, USA.
