Denver international studies scholar Erica Chenoweth and U.S. State Department strategist Maria Stephan met by chance at workshop a few years ago. They ended up collaborating on a book about civil resistance that earned them the 2013 University of Louisville Grawemeyer Award for Ideas Improving World Order. Recently, they explained how they learned that non-violence works better than violence to bring about change.
