We have this problem, when the tap-changer steps down. The main spindle doesn't always return to the exact position as marked and the device gets stuck. When the tap is out more then two steps with the other two transformers it is locked out to avoid excessive circulating currents. The Transformer is a Wilson of 7500 kVA. 33kV / 11kV
A tapchanger is a device which regulates the voltage of a large supply transformer. This part is the mechanical control box, not the actual main contacts, which control the tappings on the transformer windings. A reference voltage is taken off the VT at the secondary winding of the transformer. As the load varies at certain times of the day the voltage will be increased / decreased to remain within set parameters and to maintain a steady output voltage on the lines or cables connected to the suburban streets.
