A few observations here:
• While Ken and Ryu were at the top of the SSF4 list (found here http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2010/se... ) and together constituted over a quarter of the usage, the Mario Bros. are in the lower half. In fact, no Mario Bros. character, main series or side, placed above 19th (which was the man in red himself). In order: Luigi placed 23rd, Peach placed 25th, Wario placed 26th, DK placed 27th, Bowser placed 29th, Diddy placed 32nd, and Yoshi placed 33rd.

• Every Legend of Zelda character placed higher than a Mario Bros. character. (Ganondorf at 4th, Link at 8th, Zelda at 9th, Toon Link at 14th.) Same goes for both Mother series characters and both 3rd-party guests. Obviously, both Fire Emblem characters placed higher too, placing higher than all series except Kirby. Ike and Marth, together, make up almost 1/8 of all character usage.

• Of the top 10 most used characters, only 3 are part of the top 10 characters according to the tier list at SmashBoards: Marth, Pikachu, and Snake. If we count the top 15 (of both lists), there are two more: Meta Knight and Toon Link. The top 10 from this usage chart has three characters from the bottom 10 of the tiers: Ganondorf, Lucas, and Link. The top 15 adds four more: Captain Falcon, Samus, Ike, and Sonic.

• Four of the 10 least-used characters are on the top 10 in SmashBoards: Olimar, Ice Climbers, R.O.B., and Wario. If we extend both to 15, Mr. Game & Watch would be included too. It contains 2 characters from SmashBoards' bottom 10: Jigglypuff and Bowser. The amount remains the same if shifted to 15.

• Both games have 35 characters to use, but character usage is more spread out in Super Smash Bros. Brawl than in Super Street Fighter 4. The least-used character, Olimar, still received a higher percentage of usage (1.03%) in SSBB than El Fuerte (1.00%), Dan (1.00%), Rufus, Crimson Viper, or Gen did in SSF4. Meanwhile, the most-used character, Ike, saw less usage overall (7.54%) than Ryu (16.57%) or Ken (8.60%).

• 4 of the top 10 most used characters premiered in Brawl: Ike, Snake, Lucas, and Sonic. Likewise, 4 of the 10 least used characters also premiered in Brawl: Olimar, Diddy, R.O.B., and Wario. Incidentally, all four from the latter group are in the upper half of the tier lists.

• Of all of the franchises, Pokémon has the widest range in usage ranks, with Pikachu in 5th, Pokémon Trainer in 17th, Lucario in 20th, and Jigglypuff in 30th. It is also the only franchise with representatives in both the top 10 and the bottom 10.

• The two fastest runners in Smash Bros., Sonic and Captain Falcon, are next to each other, at 10th and 11th, respectively.

• Fox was the most-used character when Super Smash Bros. Brawl was new but is now the 24th most used character.

• The bottom 10 characters make up 14.19% of usage overall, a bit more than Ike and Kirby, the 2 most-used characters, added together (12.92%).
