Once a year on august 1st, the people of Warsaw pay hommage to the fallen heroes that fought for freedom in 1944 during the Warsaw Uprising. The biggest rebellion against German Nazi occupation during WWII cost over 200 000 lives and destruction of the capital.

I've never been a fan of organised moments of silence, as I believe that everyone should be free to remember things in their own way. HOWEVER, the story of the Warsaw Uprising is so powerful and moving. Those who literally put their lives on the line deserve to be honoured, and seeing the whole city stand still like that is beautiful. Huge respect to you all. All the best, from England.

And we were the only Allied country omitted from Victory Parade in London 1946. And the only Allied country swallowed by Stalin (Jalta Conference) which cost us 45 years of freedom under communist regime. We paid VERY big price for this uprising... and for our other war struggles. :(
