World-renowned winemaker Federico Benegas-Lynch shares his family history of how Libertad Vineyards (Don Zofanor) was started by his great-grandfather, who hand-carried cuttings from Bordeaux, traveling by ship and mule, crossing the Andes and returning via the treacherous Tierra del Fuego. A small group from Montesquieu Winery including CEO Fonda Hopkins, winemaker Helene Mingot, and Montesquieu wine brokers, was graciously hosted by Federico Benegas Lynch and Andres Belinsky at Bodegas Benegas. It was a marvelous evening with a traditional asado of chorizo, rib eye, ribs, blood sausage and more- with the wood-fired pit barbecuing the meats aside a 40 foot table. It was a fantastic evening sharing passionate stories centering around the love of winemaking. The amazing story of how this family pioneered in this rugged and dramatic land, and Federico's beautiful wines, will always be with us!
