Had the chance to visit a private collection of mango trees, I only scratched the surface with this video, I only had 30 minutes to film, and they had 100 varieties. so its rather rushed, and still could only get a few on video.
This orchard is located in Bani, Dominican Republic.
Those trees you see that are super loaded with mangoes, are of the "Keitt" variety. which is one of the preferred cultivars for commercial growers, for its productivity, disease resistance, and fruit that hold up well for shipping.
There are so many varieties of mango, if you have only tried a bland supermarket Tommy Atkins, then you do not know what you are missing. each variety has its unique qualities, I personally have 10 cultivars in my collection so far. and if I had the money and space, I would probably have a few dozen different kinds.
