The Swedish composer Emil Sjögren (1853-1918) - well known for his many songs and works for violin and for piano - did not compose more than 10 works for organ, even if he was an organist at S:t Johannes church in Stockholm for 27 years. One of those, Preludium & Fugue in A minor, is performed here at a concert on Febr 8, 2009 in Uppsala Cathedral. Olle Johansson is playing on the main organ from 1871. Made by Åkerman, a pupil of Cavaillé-Coll.
This work was dedicated to Alexandre Guilmant who also first performed it at Salle Gaveau in Paris 1908.
