Vertine was a castle during the 11th century. During the successive centuries it was reduced to a village of stone rural homes as we see today. In the church of the village conserves fragments of a 15th century frescoe "Pietà". Other works of arts by Simone Martini and Bicci di Lorenzo were now kept at the Siena museum. In origins it has 7 towers. Now we only see one. All around are hills covered with olives and grapevines. Here they produce the famous wine "Castello di Vertine" A Gallo Nero Classico label.
