Okay, onto level two of Slaughter Until Death. This definitely has a proto-Memento Mori feel. In fact the situation at the very start of the level, where you're in a slowly lowering elevator that opens on monster alcoves at regular intervals, is a very familiar TiC trope. It's used most famously as the opening of Map12 of Memento Mori (although there it was an octagon with a lot more alcoves), as well as MAP19 of Memento Mori II, and probably some other places I can't remember right now. The level also uses a lot of soft corners in rectangular rooms, which presages a lot of Memento Mori design.

Gameplay could be more exciting though. I like the large horde of monsters you release early, and particularly like there's several ways to handle them depending on how brave you feel, but ninety percent of the time you'll be slugging through the level shotgun only. Cacos, even groups of cacos, all you can use is the shotgun or maybe the chaingun if you've been hoarding your bullets. There's not enough variety. And the look of this level is pretty similar to the last one, which doesn't help.

These are minor complaints though, overall the level is solid as a rock, nothing feels out of place. And the trap at the end is a nice pump of adrenaline, just when you need it...
