Ian Bunbury, Whistler, Canada, May 2010, Former Human-Bear Conflict Manager, Landfill.

This video recounts the quick actions of a man who saved a cub from almost certain death. The cub got entangled in some netting alongside a ski run in Whistler. The cub was so wrapped up, it was not possible for it to free itself. Ian Bunbury, a long time Whistler resident, who has a great deal of experience working with bears and other animals, was able to cut the netting away from the cub while the anxious mother watched. It was as a result of his confidence and solid knowledge of bear behaviour that he was able to pull this off successfully. It was the responsible thing to do. Similar rescues should never be attempted by individuals without experience and training. Always call officials for help. One should always have back-up on hand - in this case pepper spray would have been sufficient.
