In a rare moment of bipartisan legislating, an amendment from Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) to increase funding for research into treatments for Gulf War Illness received the support of Rep. C.W. Bill Young (R-FL) and Rep. Norm Dicks (D-WA).

Kucinich offered an amendment to the Defense Appropriations bill to increase funding for the Gulf War Illness Research Program (GWIRP) within the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs at the Department of Defense by $10 million, doubling funding for the program, without increasing the overall cost of the legislation.

Representatives Young and Dicks, Chair and Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Defense, accepted the amendment and it was incorporated into the Defense Appropriation bill by a voice vote.
