On May 4, 2009, Congressman John Barrow (GA-12) spoke on the House floor, honoring the crew of "Darius Goes West."

In the multi-award-winning documentary, "Darius Goes West," fifteen-year-old Darius Weems and eleven of his best friends set off across America with the ultimate goal of getting his wheelchair customized on MTV. The result is a rarely seen testament to the explosive idealism of todays youth, as well as a vivid portrayal of adventure, of brotherhood, and of the character and strength it takes to shed light on an uncertain future.

Not only does Darius Weems bravely face his own inevitable fate with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), but through his unflinching humor and his extraordinary laugh, he sparks a revolution in the lives of everyone who crossesand then shareshis courageous path.

This year, the crew launched the "One Year...One Million DVDs," and they have the power to devote $17 of every $20 DVD sold to DMD research. In addition, thanks to an aggressive letter-writing campaign by supporters and students across the country, there is now a copy of "Darius Goes West" in every middle and high school across the country.
