How does your diet impact the environment? A brief overview of the vast resources it takes to produce meat and other animal products for our food, as well as the environmental cost of the industry's byproducts. For a more thorough look: http://goo.gl/3QOk90
A great text on this topic is Comfortably Unaware: What We Choose to Eat Is Killing Us and Our Planet by Richard Oppenlander: http://goo.gl/uM4HOs
For instance, to produce one pound of beef, we use:
2,500 gallons of water 55 square feet of rainforest 16 lbs of grain 80 kg of CO2
Then there is the literal byproduct of the animal industry: poop. 90,000 lbs of it every minute, to be exact. With no sewage treatment, plumbing, or waste management, this leeches into our groundwater as well as causes great health risks to people working on or living around farms.
So, cut the bullshit, and go vegan!
