Senate Bill 1480, the Consumer and Wildlife Protection Act, has passed all hurdles in the California Senate and Assembly and now goes to Gov. Jerry Brown for his signature.

Please help make this bill become law by writing to Brown, who has until Sept. 30 to take action. Brown historically has been good on our issues, so we are hopeful he will sign without delay.

Introduced by Senate Majority Leader Ellen Corbett (D-San Leandro) and sponsored by Born Free USA and the San Francisco Wildlife Center, SB 1480 will protect wildlife from unnecessary death and cruelty and protect homeowners from being mislead and ripped off by for-profit trappers.

Born Free USA is a leader in animal welfare and wildlife conservation with campaigns against animals in entertainment, exotic "pets," trapping and fur, and the wildlife trade. The Born Free USA Primate Sanctuary provides a safe, permanent home for more than 500 nonhuman primates, many of whom were rescued from abusive situations in research facilities, roadside zoos, or private possession. Our mission is to "Keep Wildlife in the Wild."
