On may 3rd 2012, Aalborg Zoo inaugurated a EcoMotion MaxiTruck, which is powered by a ht pem fuel cell system that run on methanol.

The Vehicle is Electric driven with a battery pack that is continuously charged with the average power consumption - this ensures the same functionality as a combustion engine alternative but with no noise, smoke or pollution. Drive cycle tests have shown that the Fuel cell alternative uses 50% of the total amount of energy. This reduction in total energy consumption and removal of emissions makes the concept unique.

The methanol fuel is derived from either renewables in form of electricity/biomass or by using waste products such as glycerin. In practical terms the Methanol/water mix is as simple as commonly known liquid fuels enabling simple and safe logistics.

EcoMotion is a consortium consisting of four partners; GMR maskiner a/s (vehicle), Serenergy A/S (Fuel cell) OK a.m.b.a. (fuel and PR) and Danish Technological Institute (PM and integration support)
