Scots have always been overproportionately represented in the British Army. In the Great War more Scots died as a percentage of their population than any of the other home nations. Almost every Scottish family was affected. This video contains images that some people might find upsetting—as they should. (Despite the song's apt symbolism, I couldn't bring myself to use an image of white crosses, as these were never used in British war cemeteries; and the untidy ending of the audio track was the best I could do to eliminate the indecently over-eager applause of the live studio audience.)
