Simon Kyaga describes how his first contact with one of the oldest myths of the Western society - the idea of a link between genius and madness - led him into his major field of research. By using the Swedish "goldmine" of epidemiological data, Kyaga is trying to determine if persons with a mental disorder more often have a creative occupation than people without a mental disorder.

Simon Kyaga is a medical doctor specialized in psychiatry and also a PhD student at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden. Before he decided to become a medical doctor, Kyaga had very serious plans of becoming a Buddhist monk in Tibet.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
