9 k btu whoa that's lower than a large window unit puts out

( +Michael Brown) the wattage is one part of the equation used to determine the EER of the complete system. Notice (@6:19) that the two BTU totals are vastly different, 39k & 9k BTU's BUT THE TOTAL ENERGY required for each is differentiated by less than a 60 watt light bulb! (2630 watts vs. 2253 watts). This reveals that the unit is costing more than 4 times in energy costs (39,000/9,000=4 ). Total increased to the consumer doesn't stop there, longer run times, oil return issues, overheating of discharge valves etc etc. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seasonal_energy_efficiency_ratio

the pressure temp differences make no sense, the after looks like the before, you have a clogged air filter you get low pressure, superheat, 23F coil gives you icing.

Great video. I've never seen the wattage measurement taken at the contactor. If you don't mind me asking, what do you personally use this measurement for? Thanks, I learn a few things from your videos and appreciate your expertise.

+Michael Brown the wattage us used to determine the EER of the unit. Notice that the two 'total BTU's ' are so vastly different, 36.9K compared to 9K BUT the total power difference between the before and after is less than a 60 watt light bulb. You can't determine what a unit is costing to operate or how well its operating without knowing this information. Every GOOD manufacturer will include in their literature charts at different temps as to what the EER/SEER and watts should be, their ball parks, this example shows the system is in need of extreme attention.

What is your opinion on the more expensive air handler filters? My HVAC guy said not to use them since they put more of a load/restriction on the air handler. I have always used them for day one (ten years) and my air handler coil is very clean.  Tks

+David Well Depends if the installer designed the duct system to accommodate for such, if not the service man is correct. I've found most companies don't even design, nor do they know how too design ducts, they use rule of thumbs.

Great video! Thanks for sharing. You said subtract 35 degrees from your indoor temp and that should give you your evap saturation temp. I am assuming that is for a 15seer. What would it be for ten and thirteen seer? Great tip by the way! That was subtracted from room temp not return temp correct?
