The Holy Monkey Forest Sangeh may be the only one that can truly be called a forest.
This is the biggest and the first monkey forest in Bali.
The high Pala (Nutmeg) trees shade a mossy temple of Bukitsari amidst the forest. It is a Hindu temple and was originally built by the Royal Family of Mengwi, and is now taken care of by the people from the village of Sangeh.
The temple is a heritage of the Mengwi Kingdom, one of Bali's major Kingdoms, and was built in the 17th century.
