Hakim Illi has been an inspiration to Peace Corps volunteers for 31 years. His story motivated volunteers to create the Supporting People with Special Needs committee, which in turn has helped create resources, trainings, and projects that directly impact the special needs community within Morocco. His advocacy work through his association had an influence on Morocco signing the UN Declaration for Persons with Disabilities.
This video was submitted for consideration in the 2015 Peace Corps Week Video Contest, ‘Host Country Heroes.’ This contest encourages currently serving and returned Peace Corps Volunteers to help Americans better understand the people in their host countries through engaging videos.
