Solar Powered Dog House (for demonstration only). Thought of it as a good idea to monitor my dogs for a few days while I'm away. It includes two wifi cameras, a light and a 22W fan.
Approximate total cost to make one: $400 - 1000
(Depending on whether you use new components or used ones) .
Also one can use a cheaper auto dog feeder without a wifi camera for about $30 to 50.
Overtime it's cheaper than hiring or bothering someone to look after my dogs while I'm out. And it allows me to keep them outside rather than inside where they may damage things without supervision.
Items:
Dog House (can get one at Walmart/Home Depot/ etc) - $100 to $250 approx.
SunRaiden 300W Solar Inverter Charger - $99.00 (you can also use another inverter with a separate solar charge controller)
Orangelink Wifi Auto Dog Feeder - approx. $145 USD ( got it in China)
6L Water Dispenser - $10 -$20 or make your own for less
3W LED plus DC cable - $10 -$12
22W Fan - $10 - $15
Wifi Ip camera - $40
12V 60Ah battery - $90 to $150, better to use two or more connected in parallel, rather than just one
100W Solar Panel - $100 to $150
Correction to the video: The batteries should be connected before the solar panel.
Also, the dog house shown could be improved upon greatly. Better to rainproof it. Shelter the back to protect it from rain and exposing the wires. And to save energy a time switch should be used to turn the devices on and off for certain time periods during the day:
Wifi Timer switch - about $30:
