SONOMA, CA - This segment profiles the origins of California's iconic state flag. Designed by the nephew of Abraham Lincoln's wife Mary Todd, the first flag was flown at Sonoma Plaza following the Bear Flag revolt against the Mexican government in July, 1846. The Bear Flag was officially adopted by the State of California in 1911. The original 1846 flag burned during the fire that followed the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. *Segment from "History Trekker : Northern California Edition." "History Trekker" is a proposed television series profiling the people, places and events that helped shape history. www.thelencreative.com
