After 6 months of hard working we are delighted to release a new Daminion 4.5 version with more than 6 important and 30 minor improvements. Most of the features in this release relate to Daminion Server. 1. A new lightweight web-client allows you to access Daminion Server and search, browse, view, and download your digital assets on any devices including Macs, Windows, tablets and mobiles. Works in all Daminion Server editions. Each web-client requires one concurrent connection. The web-client works in read-only mode now, except collection management and user management. 2. Real-time File Watching Service – we finally did it. Daminion Server can now reflect for outside file system changes immediately after receiving a signal from Windows about changes in watching folders, i.e. when new files were added, removed or changed. This drastically decreases the CPU and HDD load on your server PC because your folder structure will not be rescanned repeatedly after each interval of time. You can still use the old auto-rescan way for files and folders on remote Linux/MacOS based locations like NAS/SAN devices. File watching service works as a separate service and can work even if Daminion Server was stopped. 3. Usage Purpose Tracking. Track where your assets were used, when and by whom via the Usage Purpose tracking. For example, you can see that a photo was published on NYTimes on 2011 and don’t send it to National Geographic to avoid license conflicts. It is built-in into the export, email, and print options. You can search for Usage Purpose fields via the Advanced search. 4. Users Roles per Catalog. You can permit for some users to access for certain catalogs. 5. User management via web-browser. Manage your users via web-client now without actual accessing to server PC. This is especially useful when you outsource your PC administration for a third party service company. 6. Improved file format support. - Quality thumbnails are displayed for InDesign Files. - Added support for SVG images. - Better support for rendering thumbnails of EPS/AI/WMF/EMF vector images. It doesn’t necessary to buy third-party components now. Ghostscript will be installed automatically during the Daminion installation. - Added support for writing tags to XMP of PDF files - Added support for writing tags as XMP to PNG images when exporting - Improved handling of TIFF files - Added support for importing Revit files (AutoCad should be installed on the server PC for displaying quality thumbnails)
