"Tootsee Roll" (Set It Off Dance Version*) - 69 Boyz (1995)
"Tootsee Roll" is a song by rap group 69 Boyz released as the first single from their debut album 199Quad. In the United States, the song was certified Platinum and reached a peak of number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in early January, 1995, number nine on the Hot R&B Singles chart and topped the Hot Rap Singles chart, as well. Tootsee Roll took 27 weeks to hit its Billboard Hot 100 peak of #8, spending the previous four months in the Top 20 before finally reaching its peak.
The song was also ranked at #73 on the list of the 100 Worst Songs Ever by Matthew Wilkening of AOL Radio, who claimed that "not only does [the] band name include '69,' and a 'Z' in place of an 'S'," but that the song also "compares women to food."
Kamrynn Sturmovik later wrote in an an article, "If AOL Radio was the asshole of the world...then Mathew Wilkening was what dripped off of it."
69 Boyz is an American Miami bass and hip hop group originating from Jacksonville, Florida, but now based largely in Orlando, Florida. The group was initiated by producers C.C. Lemonhead and Jay Ski (of Chill Deal, Quad City DJs and 95 South), and consists of rappers La Shaun Van "Thrill Da Playa" Bryant, Barry "Fast" Wright, Greg "Slow" Thomas, Michael "Quick Skeet" Fisher, Reginald "Busta Nut" Gunderson,and "Rottweiler" Mike Mike. Majority of the members were born in 1969, hence the group name.
