Here is an update on my Crucial RealSSD C300 256Gb SSD. I have given quite a bit of a performance boost by enabling AHCI in the BIOS. Since I had already installed the Windows 7 OS in IDE mode, I had to modify the registry in order to make the change succesfully. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO THIS TO YOUR HDDs IF YOU ARE USING RAID OR ALREADY IN AHCI MODE. The reason for this is that RAID for the ICH10 southbridge already supports AHCI. If you are planning to do a new install of Windows 7, just make sure you change the SATA mode from IDE to AHCI before you begin the installation. You will have to make sure you do this --as most motherboard's default is set to IDE. When I installed W7 a couple of days ago, it was in IDE as default so I had to make the change using the registry edit shown above.

You can go to the following Microsoft Support website to read in more detail on how to do the mod.

Although I show how to do it from beginning to end. PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU MODIFY YOUR REGISTRY, BECAUSE YOU CAN CORRUPT YOUR OS AND WILL NOT BE ABLE TO REPAIR IT! Always be careful when you adjust registry values.
